the recommendation to do this in a more holistic and well-funded gÑ well-funded gÑ >> president chiu: good these classes are for folks to actually learn the rules of the road in san francisco. we ride on real street, on felt street, oak street, and paige street, and see how it feels to ride with other people. we talk about the public health department and the police department and our safe routes to school. we're reaching hundreds of kids each year. these are public schools that have been selected throughout the city. we're reaching kindergarten, first, second, and fourth with the safe walking and biking. and we participate in bike to school day in the spring. and walk to school is in october. hopefully a lot of you will come out and partner in that. sellita mentioned we partner in the "light of the night" campaign. we give out more than a thousand bike lights to folks who need them. people who are riding at night without bikes. we know that is a serious hazard. we're out with the police department, with the m.t.a., not just giving out lights, but installing them. we don't let you ride awa

. and with respect to the amendments that were introduced by supervisor kim, president david chiu, supervisor cohen, supervisor mar, i will be strongly supporting those amendments. i think that the add to the program and address some of the concerns that have been outlined. and, you know, a lot has been said about the viability of this program, a lot of questions about whether or not the numbers add up, some questions about protecting consumers. i have a lot of respect for my good friend, supervisor farrell. i just respectfully have a different take. i actually think that, to the extent that consumer protection is the objective here, that the best thing that we can give consumers in the city and county of san francisco is a choice, and that's what this is about. about a meaningful choice, and a meaningful choice is making sure that the energy future of this city does not rest solely in the hands of one company. it is truly about consumer protection in my view, and because of that i think that we need to move forward with this. and to the extent that the numbers -- you know, there was a question abo

chiu: supervisor kim. >> supervisor kim: i wanted to concur that i voted on this project, that i voted to approve this project two months ago. i think over all, as with any project development that comes to on the board of supervisors, we often have benefits and of course we have aspects of the project that are detracting. but i think over all, through the lengthy process that i think our board engaged with, i think that, as supervisor else bernard said the positives outweigh the negatives. i want to highlight significant benefits from this applican proe are seeing the highest inclusionary fee in san francisco and i think that's important to mention. this is money that could potentially go to another waterfront parcel that could be dedicated towards affordable housing. i think that we have talke talka lot about who this waterfront is for and i agree with the water mark and potentially with the washington project we've approved two luxury developments on the waterfront and i'm excited that the port is moving forward with a parcel on seawall lot 22-1 that can be dedicated toward affordab

, president chiu and members of the board of supervisors, jim salinas sr., born and raised in the mission district, also a proud member of carpenters local 22, a 130-year-old labor organization here in san francisco. and as far as the eye can see, generations of carpenters have built this city. i'm here proudly displaying this hat because we don't wear other gear. we don't -- certainly don't wear black hats with acronyms that have negative connotations and in some cases our members refer to them as the carpetbaggers in alameda referring to the union officials that don't have san franciscans best interest in mind. we are the taxpayers, members of the board, we help generate the local economic engine, we live here, raise our children, as an opportunity i had in 1967 i got to raise four kids in the mission district and the last two went to two prestigious universities. i attribute that to the fact i got to learn a trade and applied it here. i never got to go to oakland or san josÉ. i provided a decent standard of living. we not only provide structures. we don't just build -- we help to buil
